All of our
instructors have studied under Romana Kryzanowsk, the leading
authority in the Pilates method alive today who spent thirty years
teaching under Joseph Pilates. Our trainers have completed training
through the Apprenticeship Program with the Pilates Guild. This
certification process includes academic study, six hundred
apprenticeship hours, and several exams testing teaching skills and
knowledge level. Each instructor is required to continue their
education and training through Romana’s Pilates in New York.
The safety of our clients is our primary concern. Pilates involves
more than 500 specifically designed movements performed on five major
pieces of unique apparatus. Each trainer is required to learn about
anatomy and the correct way to perform each movement so that every
client achieves the maximum benefit safely and efficiently. Many of
our Chiropractic patients have benefited from Pilates in helping to
speed up recovery and strengthen weakened muscles.
Tina Campbell has been teaching the Pilates Method at
Chiropractic Health Resources since 2001. Her journey began in 1998 at
Stephens College where she studied anatomy, dance, and Pilates. She
realized the great benefits of Joseph H. Pilates’ exercises and
decided her calling was to teach body awareness and control to others
so that they too can lead a healthy and pain free life. Tina continues
her studies with lessons and seminars and is very interested in other
forms of alternative healing.
Ceci Fano-Bryan is the director of our Pilates Studio. Prior to
teaching Pilates, Ceci danced professionally with several Chicago
dance companies and also taught dance. She was introduced to Pilates
as a supplement to her dance training and was impressed with the
profound strengthening, flexibility, and centering benefits. Ceci
began teaching Pilates in 1993. She received her certification through
the Pilates Studio of New York in 1996 under the tutelage of Romana
Kryzanowska, and continues her Pilates education by traveling to study
directly with Romana’s Kyzanowska and Romana’s selected teacher
trainers. Ceci’s philosophy is that Joseph Pilates developed a method
of body conditioning that is genius, thorough, and adaptable to any
body. She is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of his tradition
and enjoys a staff that is equally committed to teaching the way
Joseph Pilates taught. Ceci used Pilates during her own pregnancies,
in preparation for labor, and for recovery as well. She understands
the complexities of teaching Pilates to other pregnanat women and
enjoys the challenge of tailoring lessons to meet the varying needs of
each of her clients.
Carissa Johnson received her Bachelor of Science in Dance
Management from Oklahoma City University. She moved to Chicago in 2000
and became interested in Pilates for fitness and rehabilitation with
minor dance injuries. After seeing dramatic improvement in her overall
strength and posture, she became a certified instructor through
Romana’s Pilates. Carissa continues to dance professionally in Chicago
and enjoys applying her knowledge of the body and movement to help her
clients realize their personal ability.
Dave Kedney brings a slightly different background to his
Pilates instruction. He became interested in Pilates to improve his
practice of Aikido, a Japanese martial art. David has been practicing
Aikido since 1994 and holds the rank of 2nd degree black belt. He also
teaches both the children’s and beginner’s program for Aikido. David
is certified in Pilates under Master Instructor, Sari Pace. While
teaching Pilates in Chicago, Dave has continued his education through
Romana’s Pilates.
Liza Travis was first introduced
to Pilates as a dancer major at the University of Texas at Austin.
She has been certified since 2002 and teaching full time ever since.
She enjoys working with her clients to develop confidence, strength
and ease in their bodies. She recently became certified in
Gyrokinesis®,
and currently continues her somatic studies in the Graduate Laban
Certificate in Movement Analysis at Columbia College Chicago.
